This kitty is from Animal FAIR (Foundations for Animals In Risk), where I volunteer.

This is Viva, a female Domestic Short Hair looking for a home.

Don't we all love cats? I love cats and pictures of cats are normally something that gets a lot of attention around the dA, because well. Everyone loves cats! haha
I like the lightning and the angle on this one, i think that the picture is well centered and the cat expression (should we said that?) fits the environment. The colors fit nicely into each other - brown, white, pink, green-yellowish. It's a great cat picture and the cat is definitely photogenic!
The name of the cat is quite interesting. In portuguese it's directly translated to the female form of alive. She's very cute and I definitely hope someone adopts her (if she hasn't been already).
Keep on the great work!

Cats are wonderful animals to photograph. This one in particular has such a beautiful coat and soul-touching eyes. I love the way you captured that in your picture. I also like the color you chose for the background. It puts emphasis on Viva and brings out her luminous eyes. The brown is also a great complement on the soft pink in her ears and nose. I would like the piece even better if you included the entire left ear while leaving a little space on top. That would make Viva's amazing lines and angles even better. I would also give the eyes a more endearing look. All in all, this piece is very well done and I'm sure Viva will find a home in no time. Good job!

Her yellow eyes are quite striking with her white fur. I notice there's some slight grain to the image: I notice that happens a lot in photos I take indoors. A nifty fix would be this: if you have a spot light or wide window nearby, and a reflector (even a piece of tinfoil or white card) to light up the subject, it would go a long way to clear up most of the grain. Just something to think about for future reference. Thanks for sharing, Strange! : )

Thank you!

I've had a lot of issues with trying to do the cat photos since we have to keep them indoors and I don't currently have lighting equipment (unless you count the reflector). I've been trying to combat this by using natural lighting from windows, but I don't always have control over this because 1) I go to the fosters' homes to photograph the animals and 2) the cats usually are running around like crazy because there's a new person chasing them around with a camera. lol. I was pretty happy with this one because we were able to do it on an indoor porch that was pretty much surrounded by windows. (The foster even said "this may be TOO much light!") Alas, it's almost never too much light and almost always not enough. haha. I usually don't bring my reflector since I don't want it to scare them more than the camera already does, plus the cats move around a lot so I'd have to keep moving it. I was thinking about trying the reflector, but I'd have to make sure it was set up in an area where they'd stay put. lol. I agree about the grain, though! I hope to fix that issue in future photos. I'll keep trying for more light!

Thanks for the critique! I appreciate it!

You're welcome, my friend.
I didn't consider how the cat would react to the reflector, but I can see them gnawing or pawing at it playfully now, ha ha! You've got the right idea though, and definitely the skill. My tip to you for the future: if you're worried about grain, and there's plenty of light, try a wider aperture with a shorter shutter speed for a crisp image and a good depth of field (eg. F/2.8, 1/300.) :)

Haha most of them are scared of me because they've never seen me before and I'm following them around with the camera. XD

I used F5.3 which is the widest that particular lens' aperture will go. It's usually the high ISO which causes grain, which I had mine set pretty high that way the shutter could be fast enough that the movement of the cat wouldn't affect it. Hard to find the right balance. Even with what I had there were a lot of blurred photos from the cat moving around.
