Painting I did in my Watercolour I class. The assignment was about putting a neutralized subject on a colourful field.

I gave this to a friend of mine for her birthday because she loves owls!

Based off of my photograph, "Mr. Owl"

Cool! The owl almost looks abstract, in a way. The face seems to be the focal point of this. I keep glancing at the eyes, for some reason. And now I keep thinking about "Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Gahoole" movie. Which is definitely not a bad thing.

Thank you! Yeah, it does kind of look abstract! I think it may have to do with the way I painted it. I focused less on trying to paint an owl and instead just worked on putting the values where I saw them in the picture. I think sometimes that makes it easier to paint certain things (that's a great way to paint faces and people without getting scared you're making them look weird!), and it also gives it a different look than a lot of other work.

Oooh I haven't seen that movie but I want to!

You're welcome! That's what I'm trying to do with people at the moment- especially when using charcoal. It seems to make the final product more realistic at times, as well.

You have to! It was excellent, and the graphics were just stunning! I got chills at certain points, due to how beautiful the art and music played out.
