Our assignment was to make a slab built sculpture, using references to mechanical, industrial, and geometric shapes and textures. This idea was heavily inspired by Silent Hill, as well as a little by House of Leaves and other generally creepy things, and abandoned buildings.
I wanted to reference peeling paint, riveted metal, interior structures, rust, and disconcerting architecture.
There is a small crack on one side that isn't supposed to be there, but it looks like it will hold up just fine. Here's a detail of that: [link] and here's another angle showing another side: [link]
Made with terracotta, and painted with coloured slips. Approximately 14" high at the tallest point, and 8.5" wide at the widest point.
For sale $75 plus shipping and handling. Note me if you are interested.
The rivets definitely make the industrial aspect come across... and the paint in the left picture almost gives the building a face- which just ups the creepy factor. I agree with saiyan, it looks like something ripped into the building to make itself a little home. XD Really cool little building... in a way, it's cute in a twisted way.
This is amazing! I can definitely imagine weird nightmarish creatures crawling out of that hole. The scrape marks around the main hole's edge make it look as though someone or something busted it open on purpose, to make a den or something.
The peeling paint effect is brilliant, and I also like the metal brackets on the edges; you really achieved the industrial look.
Haha, I think I see the face. XD
Lol, I don't really see it as cute, but thanks. haha
XD It's pretty cool, I thought.

Great piece
I had no idea how I was going to do the peeling paint at first. Glad I figured it out!
