Filigree Tiles

Description

One of the first projects in my Ceramics I class.

We were told to make tiles, but we were encouraged to experiment with shapes besides squares, and to use textures. I ended up making some triangle shaped tiles with swirly filigree type patterns on it as a texture.

Some of the colours are a bit off (some of the blues are darker than others), but I think that was because we ran out of slip and since it is hand mixed it can be different every time.

Made with terracotta, and painted with coloured slips.
There are 11 tiles and each is approximately 7.5" long and 4.5" wide, and about a half inch thick.

I keep eyeballing these little filigree tiles... but I can never figure out what I want to say about them. ^^; They're rather pretty and easy on the eyes. I like that the 11 tiles are in the shapes of right triangles, instead of being little squares. Though I think the circle idea would have turned out awesome. ;)
