Our assignment was to combine the use of both coil building and slab building, and create something that was a combination of organic and geometric. I used coil for the cupcakes and slab for the box it's sitting on. The icing was actually slip piped through a cake tip. For the box I tried to make it look like it was actually constructed from pieces of wood, so I included details like the nails and wood grain.
The top is open because I liked the idea of it almost seeming like a vase or container, though it can't actually be used for a vase because the hole isn't quite big enough, and it can't really hold water.
I gave this to my mom, and we're thinking about turning it into a lamp using a lamp kit. If we ever do, I'll probably take some more pictures of it and upload those, too.
Made with terracotta, and painted with coloured slips. I don't have the exact measurements of this because it's with my mom, but I think it's about 14" high.
This is so cute! The first thing that came to mind was the leaning tower of Pisa. The wood grain is really well done, and those cupcakes look good enough to eat. Seems like you're/were having a blast in your ceramics class.
Yes, the entire thing is hollow. Though I think it's much to big to be a candle holder.
